Nowadays the fishing pole is carbon fiber: lighter, ultra-resistant is the material par excellence, resulting from the latest developments provided by advances in aerospace in the 80s. A major innovation for us fishermen, with an increased fishing comfort, without counting on the precision and the resonance allowing us to do wonders against fishes more and more educated.
Choose Your Fishing Pole!
Today fishing rods are small jewels, design increasingly complex and it is quickly difficult to navigate. Characteristics such as power, resistance or action can quickly lose the beginner wanting to equip properly. I will try to explain all this easily (although it is not always easy!)
Nowadays, the fishing pole is made of carbon fiber bonded together with resin generally epoxy type, providing the best mechanical characteristics! However, we start to find some canes with Kevlar fibers but stay on what we find most, the carbon fiber.
In order to choose the rod adapted to its use, it is necessary to choose according to four great characteristics which are: the resistance, the power, the action, and its length.
Fishing Pole – Length
Before buying fishing gear, it is important to know what kind of fishing it will be used to choose its length. Indeed for a fishing edge, it will be necessary to privilege a long enough rod while on the contrary, a fishing boat will be more favorable to a short rod, less than 2 m for example or large max 2m20 as in float tube or length is important.
The purchase of a cane must be considered a minimum and be adapted to your needs!
This is the weight that you can roughly throw and handle with your fishing pole, nothing to do with the weight of the fish you can bring back! The weight expressed in gram can also be found in OZ (one oz is equal to 28gr)! Unfortunately, manufacturers may from time to time overestimate or underestimate a fishing rod it’s up to you to make your own idea even if the power written on your cane gives you good information!
You can generally choose your cane according to the desired fish: for small peaches such as trout or perch will be L to ML and for more discretion and challenge UL. For pike fishing choose between M, MH, H or XH and to finish zander and Black Bass with a cane M.
I recommend a couple of cane to be able to evolve easily and efficiently. A light cane and a heavy medium allow acting in various fisheries.
When talking about the action of a fishing pole, we talk about the evolution of the blank (body of carbon fiber cane) during a throw for example! It will bend over a greater or lesser distance depending on the action.
- Action peak or fast in English: The blank bends only on the last third of cane. The cane is rigid, the throw is far away.
- Semi parabolic or regular action in English: The blank folds on the last two-thirds of the cane. Surely the most versatile action!
- Parabolic action or slow: The blank folds on almost all the length of the cane bringing great flexibility to the whole
The regular action is recommended for beginners who do not need precise-feeling but rather need to learn the basics of handling a lure for example!
