Fisheries Can’t: Do Fish Die While Catching And Releasing?-“Fisheries Dying”

Fishing Bag: Large and Easy To Carry

“Fisheries Dying” depends on how the fish hooks, and how someone handles it before releasing it. Since you can’t help how a fish hooks, the best thing is not to make it worse while pulling the hook out. When there are fisheries dying, you can usually tell the difference. But if a good looking fish recovers and looks good going away, most likely it lives until next time anyway. From experience, any fish that has to pull off from depth to the point it has blown out its air sack will probably die. It’s not enough to pop its air sack and push it back in. The fish is ‘bent,’ it’s own recovery isn’t likely. Too many times upon leaving, I’ve come upon released fish, surfaced and dead. Since then, and since the fish I released were all of the “too small to keep” variety, I stopped trying to publish them and use them for bait instead.

Avoid Fisheries Dying: What tools are Important For safe Fishing?

A single question with fifty different answers from fifty different fishers is here.

It comes down to the person and how they learned about fisheries dying. If you started with the best possible baits, your style is going to center around bait choice. However, if you started with a great rod and reel, your style is going to focus around that.

If you started with lousy bait and lousy gear, then your form is going to be more finesse and knowledge-centered. It’s my own opinion that you could assemble any rod, any reel, any bait, and someone, somewhere, could seriously call their shot with it. “Next cast, I hang one.” and do it.

To some, this might seem like a directive to buy bunches of assorted pieces of gear and learn to use them all. I see it more like a directive to learn how to fish where you fish. The wind is blowing right in your face off this point, so what techniques are out? For me, wind in my face means I’m going to cuss a LOT if I’m trying to use my bait caster reel, so go break out the spinning reel. Oh, the water’s especially murky, what does that mean? I need to present a noisy light-color hard bait because visibility is going to be dismal

Bass Spot

My favorite bass spot? About 30 feet out, there’s a log that angles away at about a 45-degree angle. A great record. I’ve never seen it, but I’ve stuck so many lures in it and lost them that I feel like I partly own it. Smallmouth shelter from the current behind it when the wind is blowing right to the left (from the East). I know that they do. I know if I flip a lure right out there and twitch it back, when/if I can hop it over that log without getting hung up, odds are good it won’t hit bottom; fish on. (Also learned how to prepare a Texas rig, so the hook point isn’t full-time exposed, so I don’t get hung up. Instead of just laying the hook point on the soft-plastic, barely poke the end into the plastic. “Exposed,” the popular kids call it. Genius stuff.)
